Divided We Stand

Amerika bedeutet für mich alles: Leben, Liebe, Schönheit, Traurigkeit, Hass, Krieg; es ist ein Sprungbrett, um Aufstieg und Chancen zu ermöglichen, aber auch Unterdrückung und Traurigkeit. Wo wir Sportler haben, Footballspieler, die bei einem Footballspiel Milliarden von Dollar verdienen, und wir haben alleinerziehende Mütter, die in drei Jobs parallel arbeiten, nur um das Nötigste auf den Tisch zu bekommen. Es muss doch etwas geben, was man dagegen tun kann. Es muss doch einen anderen Weg geben, der Sinn macht. Du kannst mir doch nicht weismachen, dass das Leben eines Prominenten mehr Wert hat als das der restlichen Bevölkerung, mehr als mein Leben und deins. Ich arbeite genauso hart wie Jennifer Aniston, warum bekomme ich keine zwanzigtausend Dollar, keine zwanzig Millionen Dollar? Amerika ist ein Sprungbrett und Schmelztiegel, ein Schmelztiegel für Aufstieg und Chancen, aber auch für Unterdrückung und Traurigkeit.

America, for me, is everything. It’s life. It’s love. It’s beauty, it’s sadness, it’s hatred, it’s war, it’s opportunity. It’s chance for advancement and opportunity, but it’s also oppression and sadness where we see athletes, football players making billions of dollars for playing a football game. We have single mothers working three jobs just to put scraps on their table. There’s got to be something that can be done about that. There has to be a different way to make sense of it all. You know, it’s like you cannot tell me that a celebrity’s life is more valuable than a civilian’s life, than my life, than your life. It’s like, you know, I work just as hard as Jennifer Aniston. Why don’t I get paid twenty thousand dollars, twenty million dollars to do what I do? You know? And so it’s all opportunity and it’s a melting pot. America is a melting pot for both advancement and opportunity, but also oppression and sadness.
